Cavities caused by plaque buildup eventually ends up destroying the teeth. Visible cavities also produce a bad smile. Here are seven simple ways to keep you free from cavity buildup.
(a) Brush Thrice a Day – Yes, you heard it right. The conventional practice demanded us to brush twice a day, once in the morning and once in the night before going to bed. A new research on brushing thrice a day opines that the teeth get extra protection. While the morning and night brushing can be retained, the extra third brushing of teeth can be done in the middle of the day after a heavy lunch.
(b) Brush for 2 minutes – The optimal time range to brush our teeth can be between 2-3 minutes. Brushing should be done preferably with a soft bristle toothbrush using proper brushing technique. Each time we brush our teeth, spend a minimum of 2-3 minutes brushing your teeth.
(c) Try Electric Tooth Brush – It is said that electric toothbrush is 20% more effective in removing the plaque buildup than conventional toothbrushes. Their cleaning action is more comprehensive and thorough. Hence you can keep an electric toothbrush too for better oral hygiene.
(d) Floss your teeth – Flossing is an activity that can help pull out the troublesome food particles that are stuck between the teeth. Flossing should be done before brushing the teeth. It is preferable to floss your teeth everytime you brush your teeth. But at least make sure to floss once a day.
(e) Rinse your oral region with anti-cavity mouthwash – Rinsing your mouth thoroughly with mouthwash is a great way to pull most of the food particles stuck. Out of the array of mouthwashes available in the market, look out for anti-cavity mouthwashes. They are perfect to keep cavity away.
(f) Consume Less Sugar – Sugar is the greatest enemy to our teeth. They encourage plaque buildup and result in damaging our teeth by causing cavities. Prevention is always better than cure. By cutting down drastically on sugary drinks and foods, or by shunning them completely is indeed a great step towards being cavity free.
(g) Professional Cleaning at Dental Office – Keep up with your regular dental visits as advised by your dentist. Professional dental cleaning performed by your dentist can remove adamant food particles that are stuck in the crevices of your teeth and gums. A regular dental visit can also keep a check on your cavity.
